About Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy is a holistic healing modality discovered and established in Australia during the 60’s and 70’s in Geelong by Thomas Bowen.
The main focus of Bowen Therapy is the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that resembles a body stocking, holding and shaping the muscles and organs within. Fascia acts like a transfer station for incoming nutrients and outgoing toxins. It is essential that the fascia remains healthy and hydrated to ensure good general health and well being. Where there is pain, illness or loss of function, results are effective and often immediate. Drinking water pre and post Bowen will enhance this process.
Bowen Therapy is a dynamic series of gentle movements executed with the thumbs or fingers on the soft tissue of the body. The Bowen movements use a rolling/stretching technique over muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments and fascia.
In addition to a lack of water intake and poor diet – anxiety, stress, illness and medications can also contribute to dehydration of the fascia. This often leads to other problems in the body and can manifest as pain. Bowen Therapy releases the fascia and allows it to rehydrate, healing the structures housed within. These include muscles, nerves, lymphatic system, vascular system and organs. Improved function in these structures reduces pain, increases range of motion and improves overall health and well being.
Bowen rehydrates the connective tissue, stimulates, balances and enables the body’s own healing process.
